Less than one hour by train, Nara is the ideal day trip: the must see here is the Todaiji temple, which houses one of the world’s largest bronze statue of Buddha. On the way back to Kyoto, stop at the Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine.
Himeji is well connected by Shinkansen train: this city is famous for its beautiful castle, known as the “White Heron Castle”) because of its brilliant white exterior.
